DO’S AND DON’TS FOR CVAC PARENTS

The following is a list of things CVAC parents should DO to help your swimmer enjoy the sport to its fullest.

1 Do have your swimmer at the pool on time for meets and practice ready to swim.
2 Do make sure your swimmer has ALL necessary equipment everyday.
3 Do label all suits, goggles, caps, flippers, and appropriate equipment with the swimmer’s last name.
4 Do always have at least two caps and two pairs of goggles in case of emergency.
5 Do learn all you can about the rules of swimming. This way you will know and can help your swimmer understand DQ’s.
6
Do volunteer to work for the club as well as at meets.
7
Do read the “10 Commandments for Swimming Parents”.
8
Do meet as many parents as possible on our team.
9
Do always speak positively to your swimmer about practice, coaches, and meets.
10
Do offer to help coaches at swim meets (ie. Food needs, transportation, etc.)
11
Do offer to assist other families of CVAC with transportation to meets when convenient.
12
Do support the team’s relay efforts at meets. All swimmers are expected to be available for relays at the beginning and the end of the meet.
13
Do check results of your swimmers’ events and let the coaches know of any discrepancies you may notice so the coaches may check into them.
14
Do direct all questions to the coaches at an appropriate time to allow for a well thought out answer.
15
Do have your swimmer dressed in team apparel (ie. Team cap) for meets. This will help the coaches find their swimmers much quicker during competition.
16
Do check the bulletin board for info and double checking meet entries for your swimmer.

The following is a list of things CVAC parents should NOT DO while members of CVAC.
1  Don't watch practice all the time.
2  Don't come on deck during practice.
3  Don't coach your swimmer from the balcony or at meets.
4  Don't get into long conversations with the coaches right before or during practice.
5  Don't worry how fast your swimmer is swimming in practice. Some sets are not to be swum "all out".
6 Don't discuss swimmer’s split times or race strategy with them.
7  Don't discuss stroke technique.
8  Don't discuss or compare other swimmers’ performances, especially in a negative manner.
9 Don't recruit swimmers from other teams. You may provide information to others concerning our program, but please do so only when asked.
10 Don't worry that your child is not the line leader all of the time in practice.
11  Don't contradict disqualifications at the swim meet.
12 Don't promote competition between teammates.
13 Don't leave a swimming meet without determining if your swimmer is needed for relays.
14 Don't enter the area of competition reserved for coaches and officials at a meet. It is a rule of North Carolina Swimming that only USS members (swimmers, coaches, and officials) may be on the pool deck.
15 Don't distract coaches and swimmers during warm-up periods. This is very unnerving for both and #14 is a rule to help with this problem.
16 Don't get your swimmers’ time after a race; the swimmer should do this themselves.
17 Don't leave your swimmer at a meet unattended.
18 Don't approach an official about a disqualification.
19 Don't leave your swimmer at practice with impending bad weather.
20 Don't allow your swimmer to scratch an event or leave the meet without telling the coach.
21 Don't enter your swimmer in a meet without the swimmer picking their events.
22 Don't leave a meet where a chance to swim finals is available.
